The first rule is to sort by fabric type and color. Wash whites separately from colored ones, delicate fabrics (silk, lace) from coarse ones (denim, cotton). This will prevent fading and damage to fibers. Also wash heavily soiled items separately so that the dirt does not transfer to clean ones.

Turn items inside out before washing – especially jeans, T-shirts with prints and colored items. This protects the surface from friction, fading and erasing of patterns. Fasten zippers, fasten or secure buttons so that they do not damage the drum or other items.

Choose the right washing mode. For everyday clothes, 30-40 ° C is enough. High temperatures are only needed for linen, towels and heavily soiled items. Wash delicate fabrics on the “hand wash” or “silk” cycle. Do not overload the washing machine — leave room for water and soap to move.

Use the right amount of powder. Excess will not improve cleanliness, but will leave streaks and damage the machine. It is better to use a liquid detergent — it dissolves better and is suitable for low temperatures. For delicate fabrics — gels, for whites — oxygen-based bleach (not chlorine!).

To remove stains, act immediately. Do not delay! Apply a stain remover or a mixture of water and soda/vinegar, leave for 15-30 minutes. Never dry a stained item — it will “bake”. Also, do not use hot water for protein stains (milk, egg) — they will curl up and become ingrained.

After washing, do not leave items in the machine for a long time — they will start to smell musty. Take them out immediately and hang them up. If you can’t dry them right away, turn on the “anti-odor” or ventilation mode.

Drying is an important step. Don’t dry them on a radiator — this will deform the fibers and cause yellowing. It’s better to dry them in the fresh air or on a drying rack in the shade. Dry knitted items horizontally so that they don’t stretch. Turn jeans inside out and dry them vertically.

Iron them correctly. First, synthetics (low temperature), then wool, cotton, linen (high). Use a steam iron and the steaming mode — it’s gentler on fabrics. For delicate items, use a fabric lining.

Clean your washing machine regularly. Once a month, run an empty cycle at 90°C with vinegar or citric acid. This removes mold, scale, and odors. Don’t forget to clean the filter and rubber seal.

Finally, learn to read clothing labels. There are washing, drying, ironing modes. Following them, you will keep things as new longer. Smart washing is not only cleanliness, but also respect for things.

Washing is one of the most common household chores, but many do it incorrectly, which leads to rapid wear of clothes, stains and unpleasant odors.
